Can I ask my maid to work on her rest days?
The Labor Law requires you to provide your maid with 1 rest day within 7 days. It also specifies that a rest day means a full 24 hours where your maid is able to take time off from work.
In most cases, you are not allowed to ask your maid to work on her rest days. It is prohibited by the law, and committing such an offense will result in a maximum fine of HK$50,000.
However, there is a provision that allows you to substitute rest day with another day within the month or 30 days after the original rest day.
Of course, you’ll need the consent of your maid before doing so, or you’ll be breaking the law.
